Like the need for sleep or the need for food, we also have a human need to give and receive love, a need to understand the world around us, and we have the need to CREATE.  This need to create is one of those unique and divinely designed connections between man and God.

God created us in His own image, and therefore, we, like Him, are compelled to create.  We are driven to create something to share a piece of ourselves with others.  We are driven to create beauty.  And in the act of creating, we are accessing our deepest connection to our Creator.

Dance, music, painting, cooking, embroidery, knitting, poetry, carpentry, sculpture, gardening…

What do you create?  Do you feel the connection?  I’d love to hear about it.

  1. Beautiful! I couldn’t agree more— this calls to mind the sentiment from the book, if truth and goodness fall away, then maybe beauty will save the world. And I’m sure as simple as it is, there’s a deep hidden mystery there. Maybe even a surprising paradox; maybe beauty always leads us back to truth and goodness.

    1. Thanks Courtney! I am so glad you’re reading this book too! (Beauty Will Save the World: Recovering the Human in an ideological Age, by Gregory Wolfe) I am relearning so much this summer!
